Accelerating Welfare Development in Papua and West Papua Through School Construction

To realize President Jokowi's Instruction on the Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua and West Papua, in August 2019 the Government inaugurated the Boarding-Integrated Integrated School at the SMA Adek Luhur Catholic Schooling Foundation (YPPK) Adhi Luhur, Nabire.
.
During this time many private schools have experienced limitations. It will be very difficult for the provincial / district / city Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) to be channeled to private high schools, especially if there must be operational costs because there are dormitories.
.
The government wants to ensure that the concept of integrated schools with dormitory patterns can work in Nabire, not only for the benefit of Nabire Regency, but for other regencies in one adat area, both in Papua and West Papua.
.
The integrated school construction is carried out in collaboration with the private sector, the Tanoto Foundation. Private support in this boarding-patterned integrated school, Bambang continued, proves that each agency or individual can contribute, both directly and indirectly, to the advancement of the Indonesian people, especially in the education sector.
.
Schools run with integrated methods, where each curriculum must be able to capture the global dynamics and developments in the international world, but on the other hand do not leave local wisdom, especially in extracurricular activities.
.
In addition to getting hard skills in the classroom, integrated boarding school students will also get soft skills such as leadership and scouts to improve the competitiveness of graduates.
.
This step was also chosen as a breakthrough and innovation development paradigm to support the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2017 concerning the Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua and West Papua.
.
The integrated school patterned YPPK boarding school Adhi Lubur is a pilot project. If successful, in the future it is expected that more boarding high schools like this will integrate the curriculum and spread especially in other districts in Papua and West Papua.
