Now the Human Development Index (HDI) in Papua is in Line with Other Areas in Indonesia

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released the human development index (HDI) in Indonesia in 2018. The Human Development Index (HDI) in Papua continued to progress, in 2018, Papua's HDI reached 60.06. As of April 2019, the report also recorded Indonesia's HDI of 71.39, growing 0.58 points from the previous year.
.
The head of BPS, Suhariyanto, said that one of the regions in Indonesia that had experienced a good increase in HDI was Papua. The region has now moved up from the low to the medium category.
.
"The encouraging news is that Papua HDI is in the medium category. Almost all provinces are in the medium, high category. Only DKI is very high," he said at the BPS Office, Jakarta, Monday (4/15/2019).
.
HDI measurement uses UNDP (United Nations for Development Program) standards. This method groups regions according to HDI levels recorded by BPS according to international standards.
.
HDI, explained BPS, is calculated from three-dimensional aggregation, namely longevity and healthy living, knowledge, and a decent standard of living. Each dimension is represented by an indicator.
.
"Where if the HDI below 60 is considered low, 60 to 70 is a moderate growth rate. The high growth rate is 71 to 80. It means that currently HDI Indonesia is in a high position," he said.
.
According to him, babies born in 2018 have the hope to be able to live so that 65.36 years 0.22 years longer than the previous year.
.
"Children in 2018 aged 7 years have hopes that they can enjoy education for 10, 83 years, 0.29 years longer than in 2017," he said.
.
Meanwhile, the population of 25 years old above has on average been educated for 6.52 years, 9.25 years longer than the previous year.
.
The dimensions of longevity and healthy living are represented by indicators of life expectancy at birth. Meanwhile, the average length of school and long school expectations are indicators that represent the dimension of knowledge. Finally, the dimensions of Indonesia's decent standard of living are represented by adjusted per capita expenditure indicators.
.
"In 2018, people in Papua meet the necessities of life with an average expenditure of Rp. 7,159 million per year, an increase of 163 thousand rupiah compared to the previous year," he added.
