Let's Build Papua with a Sincere Heart

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD invited all parties to develop the two provinces with a sincere heart and to work holistically. Because the Government has committed and focused on the development of Papua and West Papua.

Because the step is a manifestation of the five precepts of Pancasila, namely social justice for all Indonesian people, and according to him, developing Papua and West Papua is the country's promise to realize the plans that have been prepared in the development of Papua.

It is known that until now, the Government of Indonesia has given special treatment or affirmation to the two provinces. The politics of affirmation to Papua, for example, is the Law on Otsus Papua with large funds as a form of affirmation.

"Then the provision that the Governor of Papua must be Papuans or people who are considered Papuans based on local customs," he said, Tuesday (12/17/2019).

The government has committed to accelerate development, especially in the four main priority areas since the enactment of Law number 21 of 2001 concerning special autonomy for the Province of Papua.

The four include education, health, empowerment of the people's economy, and infrastructure development. In addition, the government has also issued several special regulations and policies related to Papua and West Papua, one of which is Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2017 concerning the Acceleration of Development and Welfare in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua.

Mahfud also said, through Presidential Instruction number 9 of 2017 the President was said to have instructed 27 ministries and institutions to accelerate welfare development in the region. The strategic areas in the plan are basic services, local economic development and basic infrastructure.

"The people of Papua need logistics and development like citizens who live outside Papua, especially in Java. Therefore, on this good opportunity I invite to build Papua with a sincere heart and to work holistically," he concluded.
