Jayapura farmers' farmer groups harvest the first peanuts

The Jayapura Regent, who was represented by Assistant II Edy Susanto with the Jayapura Police Chief, AKBP Victor Dean Mackbon and the Na'Nang (Mama-mama) Farmers Group, on Tuesday, conducted the first harvest of peanuts and planting chilli seedlings.

Na'Nang Farmer Group is guided by the Babinkamtibmas Kemtuk Gresi Police Station. They planted peanuts and chilies on the land owned by the Kemtuk Gresi Police Station. The first harvest of peanuts planted by mothers domiciled in Sawoi Village, Kemtuk Gresi District made use of the vacant land next to the Kemtuk Gresi Police Headquarters.

The first harvest activity was attended by Jayapura Police Chief AKBP Victor Dean Mackbon, Jayapura Regent who was represented by Assistant II Edy Susanto, the main officials of Jayapura Regional Police, Kaptek Gresi Iptu Absalon I Tokoro.

In addition, the Danramil of the Kemtuk Gresi, Captain Sungging Nurul Wijaya, the Village Heads of the Kemtuk Gresi District, Indigenous Leaders, Religion and Ondoafi as well as residents of the Kemtuk Gresi District community.

"We are happy in the Kemtuk Gresi District that there are active groups of Na'Nang mothers who are always eager to work, so that in other places they can join this kind of Na'nang group, by planting and then selling it so they can help meet the needs of their families , "said the Head of the Kemtuk District, Gresi, Sitriman Basuki.

Mama Yohana Yaru as the Chairperson of the Na'Nang Group said that her party was fostered by the Babinkamtibmas Kemtuk Gresi Police Station. The group began work in May 2019 where it had begun clearing and preparing land.

"Our members consist of 12 mothers, 11 of whom are widows, I am proud to be able to participate in this program, where today the Chief of Police and Assistant II are willing to attend and come to the Kemtuk Gresi for the first harvest of peanuts and planting prime chili, "he said.

"Before we established this group, we planted individually, but from Babinkamtibmas we gathered together to grow crops. The results, although not entirely, could help to meet our needs," he said.

Meanwhile, Jayapura Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Victor Dean Mackbon, said the implementation of the harvest of peanuts and also the first planting of chilli in Sawoi village, spearheaded by Babinkamtibmas.

"This planting activity has been carried out since about six months ago and today we are carrying out the first harvest. We hope that this community empowerment activity can improve the welfare of the people in Sawoi village," he said.

He added, his party was also supported and assisted by colleagues from Babinsa, District officials, as well as field counselors so that the results that were planted were getting abundant yields. In addition to beans, corn, chili, papaya and kale are also planted.

"We hope that the Na'nang Farmers Group can be the pioneer of other groups to empower their land and also empower their ability to produce something of economic value," he said.
