Mahfud MD Makes a Comprehensive Approach to Conflict in Papua

To resolve the problem in Papua, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that the government did not only take a security approach to reduce conflicts in Papua.

Mahfud emphasized that a comprehensive approach covering social, cultural, economic, educational, legal and security aspects would be carried out to solve the problems in the Earth of Paradise.

"There we also emphasize the President. The government will implement a comprehensive approach, economy, culture, education, law will be more synergized," Mahfud said in a "Year-End Reflection" press conference in Cikini, Central Jakarta, Thursday (12/26) / 2019).

Nevertheless, Mahfud ensured that the security approach would continue even though it was interspersed with other approaches. Specifically in response to the separatist movement of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), the government and the apparatus must indeed take a security approach.

"The separatists are faced as separatists, right? It's ridiculous for a country to not take a security approach. No matter how secure a country is, there must be security forces," he said.
