Nabire Award 2019

The Nabire District Government bestowed awards on a number of residents who were considered to have contributed greatly to regional and community development. They consist of economic, social, environmental, cultural, and other community activists.

The awarding of the 2019 Nabire Award was held during the New Year's Eve celebrations at the Nabire Green Open Space, 31 December. There are 25 residents who won the 2019 Nabire Award. They received a certificate, cash and Batik Nabire as an award.

"Award winners are people outside the structural governance (non-bureaucrats). They are very enthusiastic, inspiring, creative and innovative in their work (serving) for the people of Nabire, "said the 2019 Nabire Award Committee Chairperson, Bentot Yatipai.

The award winners were the result of selection, which included journalists in Nabire. One of the main criteria for award recipients is that they have worked or served more than two years. Their service has also been felt directly by the community.

Roberta Muyapa became one of the recipients of the 2019 Nabire Award. He was considered to be dedicated in fighting for the fate of the Papuan Mothers who sold in the market. Muyapa ensured that the award would not reduce his critical attitude towards the government.

He will remain loud in voicing the rights of the Papuan Mothers, including demanding the construction of a market promised by the local government. "Setop promised, and soon fulfilled the rights of Papuan Mothers. We will keep shouting until there is a market for them. So, the struggle continues, "said Muyapa.

The 2019 Nabire Award was also given to community leaders and religious leaders. They are also considered dedicated, especially in maintaining harmony, as well as security and public order.

"The Nabire people are extraordinary (amazing). Although not in government, they are very helpful (duty) government. Thank you to all who participated. Come on, keep on working, and don't forget to always keep Nabire safe, "said Nabire Regent Isaias Douw. (*)
