Christmas Gifts from the Government for Papuans

John Wempi Wetipo said the construction of the iconic Youtefa bridge, the development of airports in various regions of Papua, and the Trans Papua road could be enjoyed by Bumi Cenderawasih residents at the end of this year as a Christmas gift for the Papuan people. He asked the people of Papua to support infrastructure development that continues to be encouraged by the government, especially in Papua.

"We and the community must work together. Our hope is that together we can support all the infrastructure that the government is working to make in Papua," said the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Jakarta, Wednesday (11/12).

Wempi added, of all the infrastructure projects that were undertaken in Papua, obstacles only occurred in the construction of the trans Papua road. Construction of the 2,300 KM road is still constrained by heavy terrain and security situation.

He also mentioned, the Sota Cross-border Post (PLBN) at the border of Papua New Guinea is targeted to be completed by the end of this year. According to him, the construction of the PLBN is the Government's commitment to continue the development of the PLBN until 2021, in accordance with the mandate of Nawacita that was initiated by President Jokowi five years ago, namely Building from the Edge.

Papuan Community Leader Samuel Tabuni said that the development of this infrastructure was very useful for the entire community here. He considered, going forward the challenge of the government is the development of human resources in Papua. According to him, Papuans also need to develop human resources to advance the easternmost island in Indonesia.

"But Papuans need quality and quality education so that all infrastructure development impacts on them," he stressed.
