Sebby Sambom, spokesman for the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) confirmed that his group, the military wing of the Free Papua Organization (OPM), was responsible for the massacre of project workers in Nduga, Papua.

According to him, the attack was carried out on the grounds to demand independence for West Papua. "We demand our independence rights to be sovereign," Sebby said by telephone, last Thursday (6/12/2018).

Sebby said that TPNPB was deliberately attacking the workers in the Transpapua bridge construction project. Because, he said, TPNPB rejected the development in West Papua.

"In principle, we are fighting to reject all development programs in West Papua. We only demand independence." said Sebby.

Sebby said the attack was led by Egianus Kogoya as Commander of TPNPB Regional Operations Command III. TPNPB had previously attacked TNI members because they were not happy with the construction of the project. However, the construction of the project is still ongoing.

"They paid no heed, they returned to Yigi and the project was still going on. So they had to be warned." Sebby exclaimed.

Sebby said the killing of project workers in Nduga, Papua had been planned three months ago. TPNPB had monitored the project as it had been done by TNI workers from Jayapura. "That was one of them, the one who was free to flee yesterday, we identified as being a member of the TNI." he said.
